Fuel could hit £1.50 per litre by September

The rising price of oil could push fuel costs above £1.50 per litre by the summer, piling pressure on couriers and owner drivers.Website PetrolPrices.com has pointed out that the highest prices facing couriers in the UK at the moment are more than 120p per litre for both diesel and petrol.The situation could be improved if the oil-producing group of nations Opec increased production, but as it stands the price at pumps could hit £1.50 relatively soon.PetrolPrices managing director Brendan McLoughlin said: "We predicted in February that petrol would hit £1.50 a litre this year, but if these conditions continue and the government doesn't work harder to stem the rising prices, then we're likely to hit £1.50 a litre by September."Clearly such a situation would have a severe impact on courier drivers, for whom fuel is one of the biggest operating costs."The rising pump prices could be alleviated if Opec, the oil producing cartel, pledges to increase production," the website stated. "However, they maintain that there is enough oil on the market at the moment."
